Boulder Vocal Band, Face, Wins National Awards
BOULDER, CO (May 10, 2005) - Face, the award-winning all-vocal rock band from Boulder, won National Runner-Up and National Audience Favorite at the 2005 Harmony Sweepstakes National Finals on May 7 in San Rafael, CA. The Harmony Sweepstakes Festival is the premier American showcase for vocal music, annually drawing from hundreds of vocal groups from around the country with regional competitions in eight cities. Face won the Rocky Mountain Competition on March 26, and was flown to California to perform in front of celebrity judges and a sold-out audience at the National Finals.
Self-described as an all-vocal rock band, Face has a unique style. "Our vocal chords are our only instrument," says Ben Lunstad, who both sings for the band and arranges many of their songs. "It's amusing to see the expressions in the audience, when they realize that we're the instruments." Even the drum sounds are produced vocally, or "beat-box" in the urban vernacular, and many first-time audiences are amazed at how six voices can sound like a fully-loaded band. Face performances are as energetic and entertaining as any rock concert.
Face, comprised of six men with extensive musical resumes, is no stranger to the Audience Favorite Award, having won it in the Rocky Mountain Region of the Harmony Sweepstakes all three years that they competed, and now at the National level as well. "Some people consider Audience Favorite a bigger success," says Mark Megibow, Band Manager. "The general public can have more of an effect on a band's success, since they're the ones telling their friends, buying CDs and booking shows. The judges are the professionals, but the audience is why a band is on stage in the first place."
Face has a strong fan base throughout the Boulder and Denver areas, and appears frequently at clubs, cafes, and festivals. For a complete list of upcoming events, or to purchase Face's first CD, "WakeUp," visit www.facevocalband.com.
