Last night’s show inspired us to start blogging for real. We have stories from every show, but what happened last night will stand out in our memories for life. Grab a tissue and read on...
It started around Thanksgiving when we received an e-mail from Steve. He explained to us that his dear friend, Sarah, was stuck in a hosipital waiting for a heart transplant. At that point, there wasn't even a heart available. I don’t know much about these things, but I assume that the waiting can last for months, if not years. Sarah hadn’t eaten normal food for years, was pretty much bedridden, and no clear idea when things would start looking up. When Sarah heard that Steve was going to be at our Face Holiday Show at Nissi's Bistro, she asked him if he'd be able to video the show so she could watch it in the hospital. How could we say no to that???
So on Monday, December 4, Steve brought the camera, and we decided we’d grab it and bring it on stage for one song, and just have some fun. We sang “I’m All Right” to her through the lens - seemed like a good upbeat, and hopefully uplifting choice. We just wanted her to be able to watch it and get a smile on her face even for a moment.
What we didn’t know, was that at that very moment, while we were performing on camera, Sarah got the call in the hospital that a heart became available! A week later she was in surgery, getting a new heart. Steve kept us updated via e-mail that Sarah was recovering very well. Remarkably, she was home from the hospital in time for Xmas. That was the last we heard for a while.
This gets us to last night at Nissi’s. About 30 minutes before we were supposed to go on stage, Steve came upstairs to the green room and told us Sarah was in the audience and asked us if we had time to meet her! She came into the room beaming from ear to ear. She looks awesome! A mere two months after receiving a new heart (!!!) she is up and about, looking strong, going to concerts. To say we were moved is an understatement. My eyes leaked.
Sarah’s story is a tribute to the human spirit. Certainly a tribute to our unbelievable medical technology. To think that we could play even a small part in Sarah’s happiness during her recovery touches us in an indescribable way. Sarah, you inspire us, as you will inspire everyone you meet. Thank you for inviting us into your world.

Hi everyone! Mark here to kick things off. I thought it was important to write the first blog about you. Face has been together for nearly five years, and in some ways it feels like things are just getting started. We have had so much excitement in the past year, and there’s even more amazing things brewing.
One thing is clear: If we make it to “the top,” it will be standing on the shoulders of our friends. That’s you. Many of you have been with us from the beginning. Many of you are newer friends that we’ve just met. But it is no exaggeration to say that all of the best things that Face has experienced have come from you. Nearly every show has been a result of a prior show – one of you coming up to us saying, “I want to hear you again.” That will never get old. That will never cease to be special and to warm our hearts.
Glad you’re all on the journey with us. Thanks for helping us along, and for cheering your hearts out for us.
We’ll keep singing our hearts out for you.
